Careful, your eyes may drool if you love Victorian-era homes

Inside these beauties are features Victorian lovers drool over: tall, skinny windows, huge wraparound porches, regal carved wooden staircases—and sometimes those weirdly narrow and steep stairs. It's all about the elegance of rooms spacious enough to handle hoop skirts, curtsies, grand dances and the good parts of "Gone With the Wind" and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Of the 46 Victorian homes in Washtenaw County for sale in May 2016 through the Ann Arbor Area Board of Realtors®, we present the three oldest and most drool-worthy.

See Part II

Built in 1849

The Civil War is 12 years away. James Polk is the first U.S. president
to have his photo taken. The safety pin is patented.
And this home was built.

2012 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor: $659,000

This beauty at 2012 Washtenaw Ave. in Ann Arbor is the oldest Victorian for sale in Washtenaw County and certainly one of the loveliest.

The wraparound porch, long and wide, comfy and restful, is a defining element of a Victorian house.

The staircase fits the Victorian mold as does the chandelier and the wide expanse of the rooms.

While the kitchen has been thankfully updated with modern cupboards
and appliances, its door and floor are reminiscent of the period.

Ah, the sunroom, another restful feature of many Victorians.

An upper bedroom's furnishings, especially the rocking horse, keeps with the Victorian theme.

Built in 1860

Annie Oakley was born.  Abraham Lincoln was elected.
Charles Dickens publishes Great Expectations.
And this home was built.

7366 Jennings Rd., Whitmore Lake: $1,250,000

This home is more in the style of a Greek Revival on the exterior, but inside...

...there's the sunroom identity of a Victorian.

With the chandelier, the room's ceiling corners and the richly colored, wallpaper, it looks again like a Victorian.

Here's one of those narrow and steep staircases with a skinny hall beside it.

The black-and-white tile is a frequent pattern in Victorian homes, as are lovely views from one space to another.

This creative makeover of the basement enhances the home's stone wall foundation.

Built in 1880

The first electric streetlight was installed in Indiana.
Helen Keller was born. Barnum & Bailey Circus was created.
And this home was built.

7015 Lake Shore Dr., Chelsea: $350,000

The most classic of our Eye Candy Part I, this home boasts the shape, bay window and big porch of a classic Victorian.

Large and airy, the wood floor is in keeping with the style.

In this kitchen is a great blend of the wood and brick of Victorian style with sleekness of modern stainless steel.

There again on the counter is the black-and-white tile pattern.

Could we call this updated Victorian?

And again the tile appears. Nice high-back clawfoot tub!
